Charlotte resident criticizes neighbor's 'tacky' 20-foot-tall Halloween decoration, gets encouraged to join HOA: 'Is there an ordinance against this?'

While those giant 20-foot-skeleton decorations used to be a cute rarity that might make you stop and stare, they're now widespread. People really love them! They're almost as common as big blowup ghosts or colorful plastic pumpkins. I think part of why the 20-foot-skeletons were so appealing was that they caught you off guard – you were never expecting to see such a thing, and they're just massive! Now that they're commonplace, though, they may have lost some of their appeal, as this Charlotte, NC resident is happy to echo. This person just isn't a fan of how big the decorations are (which is kind of the whole point of them anyway). They're complaining that they're as tall as their house. And they want to take action — they asked if there's anything they can do to get them taken down. 

One commenter urged this person to join an HOA. With this kind of neighborly nitpicking, they'd be great at the HOA lifestyle! But from a more practical standpoint, there probably isn't anything this person can do to get their neighbor to take down their giant skeleton. They aren't hurting anyone, after all. If they can't beat them, this person could always join them in decking out their house in a manner they see fit. If they want to take a stand, maybe they could start a new trend by putting dozens of mini skeletons scattered throughout their yard. Be the change you want to see in the world!
